OUR STORY
Founder of SolidMusicFoundations Selorm Kwame Foli, has over 25 years of experience playing and 15 years of experience teaching music.
He has taught hundreds of students in the UK, individually, in Schools, at Churches and also online to play the piano or drums.
Selorm started by playing the percussion at a young age.
He later went on to study the Drum kit and Piano which became his two main instruments. He was a scholarship student at the Institute Of Contemporary Music Performance (One of Europe’s Finest Music Institute), and also studied at the British academy of New music.
Over the years he has developed his skill and gained valuable experience in playing a wide range of musical styles such as Afro beats, Gospel, Classical, Jazz, Latin, Hi-life, Blues, R&B, Hip Hop and Rock music.
He has directed or performed music with several bands and choirs in the UK including KICC, RCCG, CHM and ICC London.
He has played in house bands for programmes being broadcast worldwide on TV channels such as God Channel and KICC TV. Selorm has had the opportunity to play in stadiums and venues to audiences of over 20,000 people.
At the beginning of his musical journey, Selorm faced a challenge many students face . He couldn't play any songs by ear even though he had been studying with traditional methods for 6 years and doing the grades. It took him lots of research, studying with different teachers, books and in music schools to find the best solutions. In his search, he noticed only few people have the skills he desired to learn, but they sometimes couldn't explain or teach them.
Especially playing music by ear! Some gained this skill through years of exposure in environments that encourage them to play by ear such as Church. However, they may not understand music theory to explain or build on what they know.
From his experience of overcoming these challenges, and his whole musical journey performing and teaching music. Selorm understood that MUSIC IS A LANGUAGE, and the only way to understand it, is to learn it exactly how we learn a verbal language. Selorm has put together the SMF music courses for Piano and Drums which are proven systems for students to achieve all the necessary skills fast and efficiently. We've helped several students from complete beginners, or those who studied with traditional methods but faced challenges to overcome them.
